“One of the very best reasons for having children is to be reminded of the incomparable joys of a snow day.” —Susan Orlean
Whether you like winter or not, there is joy to be had in a snow day. The unexpected cancellation of school due to a snowstorm elicits hearty cheers accompanied by big smiles from the kids, and it reminds us of our own carefree childhood snow days. Sledding, snow angels, building snowmen, and snowball fights…those were the days! Of course, as children, it wasn’t our job to worry about driving on slick roads or making up time for a missed day of work; we simply got to enjoy a day off.
As adults, we still get a little twinge of excitement when school is cancelled. Although these days we prefer enjoying the snow through our picture windows! And even though thoughts sometimes sneak into our heads about the work waiting for us the next day, there is nothing we enjoy more than to be able to drop everything and cuddle with our kids on the couch next to a crackling fire while watching a good movie. So when we saw this quote by Susan Orlean, it reminded us of these special times—we hope it does the same for you!
